Respiratory Physiotherapy

BREATHE EASIER

Respiratory or chest physiotherapy is an umbrella term used to describe therapy techniques that address the chest, lungs, and nasal passages. Your doctor will often refer you for chest physiotherapy.

Chest physiotherapy is useful for conditions that increase sputum (secretions) in the lungs. This includes conditions such as pneumonia, bronchitis and cystic fibrosis. You can also get mucous plugs that can stop an area of your lung from inflating properly as this blocks air from passing through. This can also include conditions such as asthma and emphysema. Mucous is a natural and important occurrence within the body, but it  can vary in thickness which can make it difficult to clear or keep moving.

Respiratory physiotherapy is also used for those that have issues with inflating the lungs and breathing normally, such as after surgery or acute injury. Pain and inflammation around the nasal sinuses can also be treated with physiotherapy.

I offer physiotherapy services for conditions such as:

  • Sinusitis (acute & chronic)
  • Pneumonia
  • Asthma
  • Bronchitis
  • Bronchiectasis
  • Emphysema
  • Disordered breathing
  • Post surgery rehabilitation

Some techniques used in treatment include various methods of re-education of breathing, manual techniques and drainage, nebulisation, joint mobilisation and dry needling.
