CLINICAL PILATES
“One of the major results of Contrology is gaining the mastery of your mind over the complete control of your body. After 10 sessions you’ll notice the difference, after 20 sessions others will notice, after 30 sessions you’ll have a whole new body!” – Joseph Pilates
WHAT IS PILATES ALL ABOUT?
Pilates is a form of physical activity using the art of controlled movement to strengthen, elongate, and restore balance. It focuses on key elements to promote body awareness and improve overall stability which allows the body to move and function more efficiently.
The APPI (Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute) method analysed traditional Pilates and created a clinically reasoned program linked to pain, pathology and function. Whereas traditional Pilates is designed for the fit and healthy, the APPI method is designed for use in rehabilitation and is based on research of segmental spinal and lumbo-pelvic stabilisation.
Key benefits include:
- Relief from aches and pains
- Aids post-injury rehabilitation
- Improved muscle flexibility
- Increased joint mobility
- Improved abdominal strength
- Improved posture
- Mind-body connection for greater body awareness and confidence
- Enhances sports performance
- Long, lean, defined muscles
- Improves pelvic floor muscle awareness and function
I offer private individual and small group Pilates classes based on the APPI method. This would be beneficial to those with current injuries, those recovering from injuries, and those with no injuries who are looking for a safe environment to practice in. It can also be used in conjunction with other physiotherapy treatment modalities.
WHO IS PILATES FOR?
PEOPLE NEEDING REHAB FOR PAIN OR POST-SURGERY RECOVERY
APPI Pilates is ideal for rehabilitation. Each movement can be adapted to your current ability and pain level, helping you rebuild strength, stability, and mobility safely. It supports recovery from back pain, joint injuries, and post-operative stiffness by restoring balanced movement patterns.
PEOPLE SEEKING LONG-TERM STRESS RELIEF
Pilates connects breath, body, and mind — creating space for calm and mental focus. Regular practice can reduce muscle tension, support better breathing patterns, and help manage the physical effects of chronic stress.
PEOPLE WANTING TO IMPROVE BODY AWARENESS AND CONTROL
Pilates trains you to notice how your body moves. Through mindful repetition and precision, you’ll develop better posture, coordination, and confidence — skills that translate into every aspect of your daily life.

ACTIVE AGERS
For adults looking to stay strong, mobile, and independent, Pilates offers a gentle yet effective way to maintain balance, posture, and joint health. It promotes bone density, coordination, and confidence in movement as the body changes over time.
SPORTS ENTHUSIASTS & WEEKEND WARRIORS
Athletes and active individuals use Pilates to enhance performance, prevent injury, and improve muscle control. It strengthens the deep stabilising muscles that support power, precision, and efficient movement — essential for running, cycling, swimming, and team sports.
