MANUAL THERAPY

THE POWER OF TOUCH

What is Manual Therapy?

While our value as medical practitioners lies in our clinical reasoning (and not our hands), manual therapy is a specialised form of therapy performed with the hands and is thus termed as a “hands-on” treatment approach. It includes various forms of soft tissue and joint mobilisation, as well as the release of myofascial trigger points.

Goals of this treatment include regaining range of movement, improving soft tissue extensibility, inducing relaxation, changing muscle function, and modulating pain.

In clinical practice, I use “hands-on” treatments sparingly, mostly at our first 1-3 sessions together. As changes achieved are short-term, it allows us to open the door for more longer term strategies to improve your experience.

MYOFASCIAL TRIGGER POINTS

Myofascial trigger points are hyperirritable taut bands that develop in muscle. They are a little known, but at times a significant source of pain for many people. Treating them can reduce pain and improve ease of movement.

I have completed postgraduate programs and degrees in neuromusculoskeletal management which means that you are in safe hands when it comes to using my hands for treatment. For many conditions, manual and manipulative therapy can provide relief from symptoms, and my comprehensive management plan will ensure you are working towards self-management and independence.
